THE SPHERE JOURNAL · A SHORT REFLECTION
Wellness is a necessity, not a luxury
Why making space for yourself isn’t selfish.
For a woman constantly giving her time, energy and attention to everyone around her, taking care of herself can become the last item on the list. It is easy to postpone a quiet hour until everything else is done.
But there will always be another thing to do. Making room for yourself is a way of recognising that you, too, are part of the life you care for.
At The Sphere, we believe wellness belongs in the everyday. A little movement. A meaningful conversation. A moment in which nothing is required of you. Sometimes, choosing yourself begins with simply showing up.
Care becomes easier to recognise when it is small enough to belong in an ordinary day. It might be putting the phone away during lunch, taking a walk without trying to make it productive, or choosing an evening with people around whom you can relax. None of these moments needs to become a new standard to maintain. The useful question is whether it gives you a little room today.
Begin with one part of your week that already exists. Perhaps there is a gap between meetings or an hour after the house becomes quiet. Decide what you would like that time to hold before it fills with another obligation. If the plan changes, you can begin again. Care is allowed to be imperfect, and it is allowed to look different from the routines you see elsewhere.
